Coaching has been defined in many different ways, and they all have their value and add to a robust definition of Coaching.
The working definition I use is that "coaching is an ongoing intentional conversation that empowers an individual or a group of people to fully live out their full potential in all areas of life."
25 years of experience in leadership, management, education and training, coaching and developing and leading effective teams, makes a lot of experience, learning and resources available to you.
Throughout these years I have learned that no one size fits all challenges and any approach needs to be holistic and tailored to your context - I don't walk in with preconceived ideas, scripts or pre-packaged training; Instead we work out together what would be the best resources and approaches to use.
Our first consultation is completely free and has no strings attached!
As important as experience and training is, the single most critical part of any coaching relationship is whether we "match". So if after our first meeting you feel that what I have is not right for you, then there is no obligation to continue.
My approach to coaching is based and guided by the world renowed Co-Active Coaching Model, and It is an experience of personal and professional development unlike other kinds of coaching.
Based on the Co-Active Model, it begins by holding you, the coachee as naturally creative, resourceful and whole, and completely capable of finding your own answers to whatever challenges you might be facing (Strengths Based)
My job is to ask powerful questions to elicit the skills, resources and creativity you already posses, rather than consult and tell you what to do.
Co-Active Coaching is a powerful relationship created through an open, courageous conversation between you and me. As a coach, I am trained to deepen my awareness of my own life choices, and I can then apply what I learn to the work I do with you and with others.
I am, like all coaches, trained to ask questions - questions that point to where you're coming from (motivations, needs, values and beliefs) to where you're going (your goals, needs and expectations). By asking the right questions, we can deepen your self-awareness, and encourage you to act on the discoveries and make choices that differ from the ones you have made in the past. And so the process of self-development (personal, professional and spiritual - holistic) continues as you make new choices, and get results, which leads to learning new things about yourself.
As your self-awareness grows, you will experiment with new choices and act in even more novel ways.
If you don't, you could be severely limiting your success in business, career and life.
This is because coaches help you identify and focus on what’s important, helping you to concentrate on the things that will make a difference.
A good coach will create an environment where you will be able to reflect on yourself - your thinking patterns, actions, values and motivation - safely, allowing you to identify gaps, blind spots, and keep you accountable.
A coach can help you identify, set and support you to reach your goals, and be an arm's length professional support person when life pulls you in all different directions.
In fact the top 3 reasons for retaining a coach according to the Harvard Business Review Survey of Coaches, are:
1. to develop high potential or facilitate transition (48%)
2. to act as a sounding board (26%), and
3. to address derailing behaviours (20%)
